Maritime Technology Research Institute in Agency for Defense Development has been developed various Sonar (Sound Navigation and Ranging) systems for naval surface ships and submarines. Sonar systems detect and locate targets by detecting radiated sound or receiving reflected echoes from targets. Underwater acoustic sensors in sonar systems radiate or detect acoustic wave mostly based on piezoelectric materials, which convert mechanical energy into electrical energy and vice versa. In this seminar, underwater acoustic sensor technologies for sonar systems is presented. Design, fabrication, and testing of acoustic sensors are introduced for sonar systems in various platforms. State-of-the art sensor technologies that can be utilized future sonar systems are also introduced.
