Most research on materials so far has focused on crystalline materials, and research on amorphous materials has been relatively limited. The main reasons for such background are that the overall expected performance is insufficient compared to crystalline and that it is difficult to predict the bonding structure, making it difficult to understand through calculation. However, as research results on the functionality of amorphous materials have recently been reported, interest in amorphous thin films is growing. In particular, amorphous thin films are relatively inferior to crystalline thin films in terms of electrical/optical properties, but have a significant advantage in ensuring uniformity and mechanical flexibility, so they are used as substrates, electrodes, dielectrics, and semiconductors for shape-deformable devices that require inherent flexibility. Expectations that this can happen are growing. In this presentation, I would like to share recent results on the production of amorphous carbon thin films and amorphous oxide thin films, and their applications to flexible devices.
