Engineering is not simply a study to solve our curiosity, but it is meaningful only when someone actually uses its outcome. In this presentation, we will take a look at the process that the technology developed in academia actually goes through to enter the market for commercialization, especially in terms of regulations of medical device industry. Medical device industry is one of the representative high value-added businesses, for which the government has been investing heavily for the future in Korea. On the other hand, medical device industry has a high entry barrier to the point of being called a regulated industry, and generally it takes at least 5 years for a new technology to be commercialized, and there are many cases where it is not reached there even after 10 years. We will try understand why medical device industry should be a regulated industry and what kind of regulations exist. Finally, we will understand the process that a new technology goes through to enter the market and will have a chance to look back on the value of the technology we develop.
