Research trends in bioplastics for a sustainable society
Research trends in bioplastics for a sustainable society Sung Yeon Hwang* E-mail : crew75@krict.re.kr According to the UN Treaty on plastic pollution, the introduction of a plastic tax and strengthening of regulatory policies for a sustainable society is expected to become a national necessity. The 3R policies (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) for reducing plastic waste are necessary policies for resource circulation, but there are limitations. In particular, plastics for food contact pakaging materials are practically impossible to recycle. The most important properties of bioplastics are strong physical properties and rapid biodegradability. However, these two features are not compatible and are difficult to optimize at the same time. This presentation introduces recent research trends in bioplastics and how to optimize the structural design of bioplastics for the development of functional materials....
