Microfabrication of polymeric materials has been used to form micro- and nanoscale lines and blocks in semiconductor chips or display panels. For semiconductor industries, photolithography, which uses the chemical change of polymeric materials by UV light, is conventionally used. By obtaining hints from Mother Nature, advanced fabrication of microscale and 3D structures should be necessary. However, conventional photolithography has a limitation for the preparation of 3D structures. In this talk, we introduce unconventional lithography to realize artificial 3D structures inspired by nature. We exploit the deformation of polymeric structures and the wetting of liquid by capillary force for the formation of 3D structures. The advanced microfabrication methods could be used for the preparation of directional adhesion patches, omniphobic surfaces, and stress relaxation films.
