The 4th Industrial Revolution & AI technologies are poised to bring transformative changes to numerous manufacturing fields, including chemical processes. In this seminar, we will explore the evolution of chemical manufacturing processes from the “Dynamics” point of view. With advancements in measurement, communication, and computing technologies, we’ll examine a recent digitalized platform that enables real-time monitoring of chemical processes. Furthermore, we will discuss data-driven control methods that can predict and improve product quality based on real-time decision-making. Both the successes and limitations observed in real-world applications will be discussed along with the potential solutions. Finally, the concept of a “Self-driving Lab,” an AI-based future lab environment will be introduced and we will discuss the necessary dynamic technologies for its successful implementation, including decision-making, experiment scheduling, physical automation, dynamic optimization, and sensor-based safety.
