Organic semiconductors have gained significant attention as potential thermoelectric materials due to their inherently low thermal conductivity and the potential for low-cost production through low-temperature processing methods. In the field of organic thermoelectrics (OTEs), substantial progress has been made in both material development and device fabrication. However, there are still significant challenges that need to be overcome in terms of designing rational molecular structures and precisely tuning molecular doping. In this presentation, we show our recent progress on the molecular assembly of organic semiconductors and the device fabrication for TE applications. These studies have enabled us to effectively screen and identify promising OTE materials, as well as construct photothermoelectric devices. Furthermore, we have achieved a figure of merit of up to 0.4 by manipulating the molecular orientation of the materials. Finally, we will showcase the promising applications of OTE materials in self-powered sensing, Peltier cooling, and wearable electronic power generators. In summary, we highlight the potential of organic semiconductors in OTE fields and provides insights into the molecular design and device fabrication strategies to unlock their true benefits.
